Winter Fashion Must-Haves

Midwestern winters suck. It can be 60 degrees and -30 degrees in less that twenty-four hours. It is equally very humid and very dry. Your hair is frizzy. Your skin is dry. You spend most of your time inside, hiding from the elements. You haven't seen the sun in what feels like years.

This is something that a normal midwestern person would probably tell you. And while it holds truth, I actually quite love winter. As a homebody, I go crazy for the cozy vibes that surround the holidays. But what I really love about winter is the fashion. If you know me, you know I have an entire closet dedicated to just coats. The colder seasons give me a chance to show them off!

When the windchill is -45 though, as it was here a couple of weeks ago, it can be hard to know how to dress for that weather. So, here are some of my all time favorites to keep me warm (and fashionable) during these chilly months.

Fur-Lined Jackets

In my opinion, a good fur-lined jacket never really goes out of style. Pair them with anything- a pair of jeans and sneakers, trousers and heels, a skirt with tights. This is a versatile piece to own.

Luckily, these have gained tons of popularity in 2022, so they are easily found in plenty of stores (with a wide variety of price ranges).

H&M- $44.99 Commense- $85 Nordstrom-$148 Rouje- $895

Knee-High Black Boots

Speaking of pieces that go with everything, a good pair of boots will serve you well in the winter. And fall. And spring and summer too, if that's your vibe. I prefer boots that are platform, mainly because I am only 5'2", but also because I find that they can withstand things like snow more easily. And, platform shoes make you look like a badass.

DSW- $89.99 Steve Madden- $99.95 Urban Outfitters- $149

Turtleneck Sweaters

Want to look chic but still feel cozy? Turtlenecks are your answer. These sweaters have been all the rage lately. They come in pretty much every color, pattern, and fabric that you can think of. I love styling these with baggy jeans for a Matilda Djerf-type outfit. They also are super easy to dress up or down. Paired with a mini skirt, a pair of black tights, and the knee high boots, you have a perfect date night outfit.

H&M- $49.99 Ralph Lauren- $64.99 H&M- $199

Knit Scarves

If you had told 7 year-old me that I would willingly be wearing big, knit scarves, I'm pretty sure she would have laughed at you. Now, we are seeing all the big fashion icons wearing big scarves as statement pieces. And thank goodness that they are so in style right now, because they are so incredibly practical in shielding you against the cold! I am a fan of the more pastel/neutral-colored ones, but they come in all sorts of fun colors!
