Tablescapes

I’ve loved setting tables since I was tall enough to reach one. Yes, I know that’s sort of weird. Like, what teenager gets excited to go plate shopping? (Hint: me). My parents have always loved hosting dinners with family and friends, and as I grew up, I learned to love it too. It became a weekend hobby for me. I was always in charge of setting the table, and I love it because of how creative you can get! Nothing brings a dinner party together like a pretty tablescape. I know right now we can’t host dinner parties. But, there is something very therapeutic in decorating the table and cooking a nice meal in the midst of quarantine. It feels special and refreshing to do something different. My family has been doing a nice meal once a week/every other week, just to spice things up. And, as the weather is getting warmer, it’s a beautiful time to eat outside. When you think of setting tables, you probably don’t automatically think about all the creative possibilities that it offers, but there is so much potential for it! It doesn’t have to be expensive either. My mother and I love to thrift our table decor, go to dollar stores, or make the decorations ourselves. Most likely, for the table setting that I use in this post, you already have most of the items needed in your own home.

Chargers

I think that chargers bring so much personality to the table. They add a pop of colour and bring a level of elegance to the setting. They’re pretty easy to find at tons of stores in a variety of colours and prices, but personally I love to get chargers from Michael's for just $2 each (and there are often coupons that can get the prices as low as $.50)! They really don’t need to be expensive. I own a big variety of colours that match all different holidays and occasions!

Greenery Greenery brings life to the table. It makes things look very put-together and can range from a minimalistic style to busy floral arrangements. A lot of greenery that you can use as a table decoration costs $0. My favorites are sage, chive flowers, rosemary (which is particularly pretty in the winter time), or any snip of a tree or bush outside with nice leaves. So, next time you’re setting the table, go take a look outside and see what you can do!

Using What You Have Around the House

I find this part really fun. A lot of our napkins are homemade- the ones pictured below are from some old fabric. I love to use twine to tie napkins into a little bow shape and then stick some sort of greenery in there. It’s so easy and so pretty! You’d be surprised by how many random things you can find in your house that you can use to decorate the table with. If you need a little help with inspiration, Pinterest is a great place to look!

Get Creative!

Table-setting is definitely an art form! There is so much potential when setting a table, just look at it as if it’s a blank canvas. There is plenty of room for self expression and it is super fun to cater a tablescape to different events!

Have some fun with this- have a little dinner party with your family, get creative, and see how special it feels! Never underestimate the power of a white tablecloth and items around the house!
