Summer Fashion Favorites

I think it’s easy to say that summer fashion is a crowd favorite. There are so many different styles to stay stylish, comfortable, and cool while dealing with the summer heat. Even though a bunch of us are still stuck at home in quarantine, that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun with dressing up! Personally, I adore getting dressed up. Staying in my pajamas all day isn’t really my thing, because it makes me feel lazy (though there is absolutely nothing wrong with that). Getting dressed every day makes me feel productive- something that I think a lot of us are struggling with during the stay-at-home order. It’s just a little bit of routine that I can add into my day to make life feel more normal! I live in central Illinois, which if you’re not familiar with, has extraordinarily moody weather. It’s really common to see 30 degree temperature jumps from day to day during pretty much all four seasons. Right now, we’re in the spring to summer transition, which means it can easily be 45 degrees, but can also easily be 85 degrees. So, there is really a big variety of how I dress on the daily basis.

Here you’ll find some of my favorite summer fashion looks, how I style them, and other alternatives to styling them. Enjoy!

Vintage Dresses

Vintage-inspired dresses have made a HUGE comeback over the past couple of years! It’s easy to find them in most basic stores. Dresses with puff sleeves and square necklines have been my favorite in the vintage style. These type of dresses are super romantic, and can be dressed up and dressed down for so many different occasions! I love to pair my vintage dresses with a pair of sandals or heels, gold jewelry, and a woven bag.

Button-Down Shirts

As you’ll soon notice, a lot of my style is based off of the French. I love the simplicity. A French-girl staple is the white button down blouse. This is probably an item that I wear once or twice a week. It goes with pretty much everything: skirts, jeans, shorts, tied over a dress, etc. It is a simple statement piece that makes any outfit look super polished and put together! You can find a basic button down in a variety of different fabrics, so with a light, airy fabric, it is a perfect summer piece (but can also be worn year round, of course). My go-to look is to pair my button down with a hair scarf, jeans, heeled-sandals, and gold hoops!

Silk Skirts & Tie Tops

Pairing these two items together is a LOOK- effortlessly romantic, with a mediterranean twist. One thing about me: I love midi skirts. So much. They are super comfortable and easy to move in, but they are also super cute and stylish. The thing that I love most about them is how easy they are to dress up or down. Midi skirts go great with a graphic tee and a pair of sneakers, for a cool street style look. You can also pair them with a plain or button down shirt for a more feminine touch. Front-tie shirts are very in right now. I totally see why. They go with skirts, dresses, shorts, and are loose and comfortable for when it’s hot outside. They also double as a stylish coverup for a swimsuit! I paired these two items together with gold jewelry, espadrilles, and a messy updo.

Layered Necklaces

Another French staple: the gold pendant necklace. Look at pretty much any French model, and you’ll see them wearing one. Jewelry in general really spices up an outfit as an accessory, but layered necklaces add a whole other layer of elegance to any outfit. You can layer pretty much any necklaces that you’d like! Lots of people are in to layering chunky chain necklaces with smaller dainty ones for a more street style effect. This is my go to layered necklace- I wear it with most of my outfits!

Espadrilles

This style of espadrilles took over the fashion world over the past two years. They’re comfortable, stylish, and can be paired with every summer outfit. They also come in a large of variety of colors (but brown is my personal favorite). I love to pair these shoes with casual dresses!

I hope you found some inspiration for outfits this summer! Stay cool & always wear your sunscreen! I have linked all the pieces featured below.
